Wanderlust Weather

Wanderlust has been a evolution of what I think belongs in a weather app.

First it started as a continuation of two ideas I had over the years. One was to give time-based forecasts for locations that you might be visiting or traveling. The other was to tell you which day would be the “Best” based on various variables in the forecast. It stayed in this state from about 2022-2026 as I didn't have too much time to work on it due to jobs and such.

Then over the past year, I started adding things I really actually wanted in the app. While taking out things that didn't work so well. I got rid of the star ratings that seemed to always be just a bit off. I dropped Android support since I never really knew how well it worked there anyway. I simplified the dashboard and screens to give a better at-a-glance view than diving straight into the data. It now has a current location forecast. And I finally got the graphs working that I gave up on years ago.

Where does it go from here. Well firstly, the Open Meteo data that drives the forecast always biases to the GFS in North America, which for where I live, isn't super accurate a lot of the time. I don't want to host the weather data myself, but I need to switch that up. Second, I want to bring back the star rating system, but I want to have it be dependent on each person and location. While I want to to be partly cloudy and 60ºF all the time, I know that is not what everyone else wants. Being able to change the rating thresholds to be where and what you want it to be would actually make it useful.

Afterwards, probably another stretch of maintenance mode because there is only so much a weather app can do.
